Naruto, Episode 17: White Past: Hidden Ambition

Summary of Akino's Role in the Episode

Akino, one of the ninken (ninja dogs) summoned by Kakashi, plays a supportive role in the battle against Zabuza. He is part of the team of ninja dogs that emerges from the ground during the battle, helping to neutralize Zabuza’s movements and assist in his eventual capture.

Akino is seen emerging from the ground alongside other ninken, such as Guruko and Bisuke, to bite into Zabuza’s right leg. This action, alongside the efforts of the other dogs, prevents Zabuza from being able to move effectively, as they latch onto him and hold him in place. Akino’s participation is crucial to disrupting Zabuza's combat strategy, particularly in the midst of the fog, where his senses are impaired. Through their coordinated efforts, the ninken are able to weaken Zabuza's resolve and set the stage for Kakashi’s final move, Raikiri.

Rating of Akino's Impact: 4.0/10

Akino’s impact, similar to other ninken, is primarily supportive and utilitarian. While the ninken collectively play a significant role in Zabuza's capture, their actions are passive compared to the main characters’ developments. Akino’s involvement, while helpful, does not add much to the emotional or narrative depth of the episode beyond the combat context.

Considering this, Akino contributes to the episode but not in a deeply impactful or pivotal way, making his overall contribution score 4.5/10.

Naruto, Episode 18: The Weapons Known as Shinobi

Akino's Role in the Episode

In this episode, Akino is one of Kakashi's ninja dogs, alongside Bisuke, Bull, Pakkun, and Shiba. The ninja dogs play an essential role in aiding Kakashi during the battle, particularly by assisting him in tracking and sensing the enemy's movements.

  • Assisting Kakashi:
    • Akino, like the other ninja dogs, is summoned to help Kakashi during the battle against Zabuza. While the episode doesn't focus on Akino specifically, the dogs serve to gather information and provide support to Kakashi during his confrontation with Zabuza. They track movements and help Kakashi maintain situational awareness on the battlefield.
  • Disappearing After a Key Moment:
    • Akino, along with the other dogs, is present in the battle and, at one point, vanishes in a puff of smoke after being struck by senbon (a type of needle weapon). This moment highlights their vulnerability despite their helpfulness. It also marks a shift in the battle, as Kakashi continues to face Zabuza without their assistance.
  • Symbol of Kakashi's Tactical Ability:
    • Akino’s role, while brief, reflects Kakashi’s reliance on his ninja tools and tactics. The ninja dogs are an extension of Kakashi’s own combat style, emphasizing his preparedness and his use of everything at his disposal to defeat his enemies. Even though Akino and the other dogs don't directly change the course of the battle, they contribute to Kakashi’s overall strategy.

Impact Rating: 3.0/10.0

Akino’s role is quite minor, but the ninja dogs overall do contribute to the narrative by helping set the tone of Kakashi's combat strategy. Their disappearance after being struck by the senbon adds to the tension in the fight, highlighting the dangers of the battle and the shifting dynamics as Kakashi faces Zabuza alone.
