Vinland Saga, Episode 2: Sword
Synopsis
Torgrim makes his debut in this episode as a member of Askeladd’s band. His presence is primarily seen in the final scene at Askeladd’s camp on Streymoy, one of the Faroe Islands, where he participates in a cruel game involving throwing axes at a captured Christian monk tied to a post.
Torgrim taunts the monk, warning him not to dodge, and when he misses his throw, he falsely accuses the monk of moving and threatens to kill him. His demeanor reflects the brutal and sadistic nature of Askeladd’s men, who find entertainment in violence and tormenting captives.
This scene establishes Torgrim as a ruthless and violent warrior, reinforcing the atmosphere of Askeladd’s mercenary group. His presence, along with the actions of the other men, sets the tone for the lawlessness and brutality that contrasts sharply with Thors’ pacifist ideals.
